October 2026 · Tax returns

Still need to organise your tax return? Start here.

October is a good time to stop putting your tax return off and work out what is missing.

Prepared · Maida Vale, Western Australia

If you lodge your own return, the usual deadline is 31 October. In 2026 that date falls on a Saturday, so the next-business-day rule moves the usual self-lodgement deadline to Monday 2 November 2026. Your circumstances may differ. If you are engaging a tax agent for the first time or changing agents, contact them before 31 October and ask them to confirm your actual due date. An enquiry alone does not guarantee an extension or acceptance into an agent's lodgement program.

Get your records together: income statements, bank interest, investment income, rental-property records if relevant, and evidence for deductions. Flag anything uncertain rather than guessing. Let your accountant know about outstanding earlier returns or changes in circumstances.

Demeter Accounting & Advisory supports individuals and businesses from Maida Vale, including Kalamunda and the Perth Hills, with phone and virtual appointments Australia-wide.
